Book Fair kicks off

2The 25th edition of the event ran for 10 days in Great Imam Khomeini Mosalla (prayer ground), from May 2 to 12, from 10 am to 8 pm. The event included three sections dedicated to na-tional, international and Islamic awakening publica-tions, announced the fair’s Chief Executive BahmanDorri. Over 2,400 Iranian publishers and 1600 pub-lishers from 77 countries are offering their products this year.

The International Resistance Book Fair took place for the first time on the sideline of TIBF providing literature on different aspects of the Islamic Awakening with Syria and Lebanon taking pavilions. The aim of the project was taking a firm step for enhancing the literature and the works in the field were granted translation into English and Arabic. Traditionally, the TIBF is a social and cultural event with book displays and panel discussions on a variety of subjects. Among the programs is the session in honor of the late “Savushun” author and greatest Iranian female novelist, SiminDaneshvar, which took place on May 11. In addition, the “Our Reason” publication awarded young women and girls named after Fatimah (the holy prophet’s immaculate daughter) and her mother, HadhratKhadijah, in the last day of the event in celebration of her highness birthday. Due to the growing presence of women in the event both as publishers and as visitors, the Hijab and Chastity Committee of the Presidential office on Women, Family Branch has established its pavilion in this year’s edition. April-May 2012 29 According to Zahra Sajadi, chief of the Branch, the publications presented their books in the pavilion with attractive displays and programs. The Society of Women Basij (Iran’s mobilization campaign) was also delivered 150 titles that introduce 7000 women martyrs who represented the Iranian women during the Islamic Revolution and the 8 years of defense against Saddam Hussain’s regime. Maryam Zohourian, the Women Publishers’ Cultural and Artistic Center’s manager believes that due to the lack of correspondence among women publishers in the region and the troubles they face in distribution process, TIBF is a good opportunity for them to present their products and improve interconnections. The festival offered a labyrinth of 6000 meters to the international Children Books. Children in the festival enjoyed a plethora of books and other training aids accompanied by daily competitions, games, and fun, and entertainment programs. Of interesting subjects in children section were pub- lications exposing children to the lives of the holy prophets (PBUH) and the 12 Shia Imams and their tradition with appropriate designs and languages. book fair was distribution of 151 titles of “work at home jobs”. The print supervisor of the Publications of Labor and Social Security Institute Mohammad Asghari said:” Each of these 151 book titles separately explain about a specific job’s features, facilities and investments which people can do at home.” Some of the books include “Work at home jobs: designing shoes and cloths”, “Work at home jobs: designing advertising banners” and “Work at home jobs: services of supplying vehicle’s spare parts”. The other presented books were “An introduction to the culture of labor”, “Labor sociology”, “Pocket book of labor laws” and “History of labor laws”.
