Moharram and Sense of Deep Grief
Every single year, as Muslims approach the month of Moharram, a sense of deep sadness and grief overshadows their life and everything going on around them. This of course has been going on for centuries and will be forever. As Muslims, we become familiar with Imam Hossein (PBUH) and all the tragic sorrows and disasters he faced for the sake of Islam and freedom of mankind. The strange point is that each year, the deep sadness and sorrow deepens in our souls and hearts and we sympathize with Imam Hossein and his dear and kind family members who sacrificed everything, including their precious lives, for the sake of mankind. At the same time, Muslims around the world try to show their love and sincere devotion to Imam Hossein in any way they possibly can. This is indeed quite true about the young generation. Maybe one dares say that each one of us feels a true devotion to God through an honest devotion to Imam Hossein, and through him, this spiritual bond and love becomes even stronger. We cry openly for our Imam and everyone who suffered from the oppression and cruel tyranny of Yazid and his evil followers. We make a hearty connection with the Imam and speak with him through this great sensation. And what is more, we forget about everything that might be bothering us in life at that particular time. Has history ever witnessed such a pure and honest love and dedication for anyone else? May God bless our souls and hearts with decent love, devotion and respect for Imam Hossein and help us comprehend his intentions and efforts. I do hope that we remember our own duty in understanding what Imam Hossein did for each one of us and that we are grateful for every single minute of our lives. I also hope that as true Muslims, we will try to reflect such behavior in our lives. Sh. Ghandehari
