Iran Records its Best-Ever Olympic Ranking in London 2012
Winning its most gold medalsin an Olympic summer game was not the sole reason that differentiated London 2012 Olympic for Iran’s sport. Among all other reasons, the presence of an Iranian female shooter,ElaheAhmadi, in the final round of women’s 10-meter air rifle event at London Olympics and the eye-catching results of NoshadAlamian in table tennis were other factors which made London a memorable occasion for Iran’s sport. Iranian sport caravan finished its works in London 2012 Olympic through earning four gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals. Greco-Roman Wrestling:Iranians recorded one of their best performancesin this area. Hamid Sourian (55 kg), OmidNorouzi (60 kg) and QasemRezaee (96 kg) won three gold medals in the London Olympic. Weightlifting:The athletes of Iran’s caravan proudly achieved 4 medals. BehdadSalimi won the gold medal of +105 category and introduced himself as the most powerful man of the world. Taekwondo:It was among the medal-winning sports of Iransince Athens 2004 Olympic, but this time it sufficed to only a silver medal gained by Muhammad BaqeriMotamed (-68 kg). Maybe one of the most valuable medals of Iran was achieved by EhsanHadadi who hanged the silver medal of discus throw from his neck and equipped Iran for the first time with a medal in athletics. In comparison with the previous course, Beijing 2008 Olympic, in which Iran reached only a gold medal (in taekwondo) and a bronze medal (wrestling), this performance was brilliant. Iran's sport team in London 2012 Olympic Games came back with 12 medals standing at world's 17th place, which is the country's best record ever in the Olympic history.
